Studio Format

Today's session is run as a design studio. We begin with a live demonstration of TerraXsite by Assaf, followed by group feedback and user testing. This sets the bar for what you will build: your own Earth Observation dashboard or application.

Your goal by end of day is a Minimum Viable Product (MVP) that you can demo to peers for real-time feedback. After today, you continue developing independently toward the final deliverable.

Live walkthrough of the TerraXsite Earth Observation application. Pay attention to architecture, data sources, UI patterns, and how satellite data is presented to end users.

Group Feedback & User Testing
Structured usability testing session on TerraXsite. Test as real users: document friction points, identify strengths, suggest improvements. This is your model for how peer review works.
11:30 - 12:00 Studio
Project Scoping & MVP Planning
Now that you've seen the possibilities, define your own EO app concept. Identify your target audience, data sources, and core features for the MVP.
12:00 - 15:30 Break
Extended Break
Lunch and independent work time. Use this to start scaffolding your application.
15:30 - 17:00 Studio
MVP Development Sprint
Hands-on development time. Build your Earth Observation dashboard MVP. Instructor available for technical support and architecture guidance.
17:00 - 17:30 Peer Review
MVP Showcase & Peer User Testing
Quick demos of your MVP to 2-3 peers. Collect hands-on feedback using the same structured approach from this morning. Document feedback for iteration.

🎯 Final Deliverable Requirements

Your final product is an Earth Observation dashboard or application, hosted online as part of a class portfolio. The deliverable has three components:

1. Live Site Your EO app hosted online (GitHub Pages, Vercel, Netlify, etc.). It must be publicly accessible with a working URL.
🎬
2. Demo Video & Presentation A screencasted video walkthrough uploaded to YouTube. Must cover: target audience, UI/UX design rationale, API calls, systems architecture, and the technology stack behind the app.

3. GitHub Repository Clean, documented repo with README. Code should be well-organized and reproducible.

Send the following to your instructor:

🎥 Video Presentation Guide

Your demo video should be recorded using screencasting software (OBS, Loom, or built-in screen recorder) and uploaded to YouTube. The presentation should cover:

  • 🎯 Audience — Who is this application for? What problem does it solve?
  • 🎨 UI/UX Design — Walk through the interface. Explain layout, color, and interaction decisions.
  • 🔌 API Calls — What data sources and APIs power the app? How is data fetched and processed?
  • 🛠️ Systems Architecture — Diagram or explain the technical stack: frontend, backend, data pipeline.
  • 🚀 Live Demo — Show the application working in real-time with real data.
